First, parallel planes are fitted to a series of pairs of point sets, to measure orthogonal separations (diagnostic plots generated to assess quality of fit). Weighted or unweighted least squares minimization is then used to estimate a 3D slip vector, based on the orthogonal separations. Data is assumed to have the same units in all three dimensions (e.g., UTM meters).
