All four components of this composite view the scene from a common location south of Alaska and above the Pacific Ocean. Each of the four quadrants displays one of the four image volumes with labels defined in the lower left corner of each quadrant. The sectioning is similar to Animation 2 with the section plane oriented roughly perpendicular to current plate motion. Seismic stations are displayed as magenta spheres and are masked as the section passes. See the caption for Animation 2 for a description of other elements of this scene. Note that we do not display earthquakes in any of these sections to allow direct comparison of the imaging results relative to the three-dimensional (3-D) plate model described in the text without the clutter the earthquake data would produce.
