The lava is a fine-grained tephrite, with few large (>1 mm) feldspar phenocrysts set in a pilotaxitic groundmass. The fracture pattern is variable from the top of the interval toward the base. Pyrite coating and secondary minerals are abundant in fractures and vesicles and at the sediment contact.
